There is no depression...

A favourite landmark of mine, I snapped this on a recent visit to NZ, I'm glad she's still there.

Back in the garage with my bullshit detector...

At 13 years old and as akward as a teen could be I discovered The Face magazine. It launched my love affair with all things english, fashion, art, culture, music and just about everything cool. Growing up in a small town in New Zealand it wasn't easy to find but there was one record store called The Beat Box, which carried it and I would save my lunch money and go hungry just to buy every issue. On a recent evening you can only imagine my excitement when I came across this issue from 1981 (thank you John for saving this!) It was different to the glossy fashion filled pages of The Face I knew, more DIY, more punk, more music but still equally as edgy and inspiring. Here's a few pics from it...sorry about the glare, the lighting was bad.

All Mod Cons...

Echo Park, CA
Nestled between the ever loved Sirens and Sailors and the long standing go to vintage spot Luxe De Ville is the fairly new Mohawk General Store, owned by husband and wife duo Kevin and Bo Carney. It really is a 'general store' carrying everything from homewares to jewelry to shoes and clothes. The store itself is fabulously stylized with a modern take on a mid century kind of look. What I love most about the store though is that nearly every product is amazing and merchandised incredibly well. The Generic Man shoes (co- designed by Kevin) are stunning and exclusive to the store, they sit alongside Slow and Steady Wins the Race, Repetto and Rachel Comey to name a few. Many of the clothing and accessories are made by local designers...oh and the sunglasses, to die for!!! http://www.mohawkgeneralstore.net/
Here's a few pics snapped at an opening they had on friday night, I wish I got more but it was packed so you'll just have to go and see for yourself!

I like the cut of your J.I.B

Hollywood, CA-May
Space 15Twenty- If you live in Los Angeles and you've not yet been to Space 15Twenty I highly recommend it...yeah yeah it's owned by Urban Outfitters but it's great space, a concept store, art gallery and cafe. They're doing a really good job pushing new designers(hi, maybe you'll notice me oneday) with their monthly rotating pop up shops and their Sunday events are a good way to spend a sleepy hungover day. http://www.space15twenty.com/
This girl is a total perfection of youth culture. I love her look...I kinda wish I got her phone number...if you ever see this, email me...i want you to model for me!

Somehow she pulls this look off...it could get trashy on many others.

Love the mens loafers with socks!

I love how he's looking at her adoringly. How does she look this good in purple.

Feathered necklace and coloured tights...a nice look i think.

Ok, so you have to blow this up to appreciate it...the dress print is amazing...tigers!!! I'm a sucker for an all over animal print used in a high fashion way rather than on a quilt or an apron...it's a good contradiction.
Boys in LA are seeming very well dressed these days.

The powder pink shoes=amazing.

A perfect match.

Sunday bloody Sunday...

Hollywood, CA - June
So on sunday morning after just three hours sleep my friend decides we are going to do a photoshoot- renegade style...the next few hours would involve the roosevelt hotel, sex shops, mexican markets and tourist attractions...here are some out takes and things along the way...
roosevelt hotel, hollywood blvd...it is so absolutely beautiful in there and transports you back to old hollywood...except for the bad cheap modern windows they've put in as seen above.

Hollwood/Highland...it wasn't his intention to get this wet, once the fountain shot up it was a lost cause but made for a great photo!

We almost got thrown out but ran off in the nick of time...sorry for disrupting your sunday service but lets face it, you were probably bored anyway.

this bread packaging is kind of amazing, it looks like it's from the fifties.

i can only imagine what this tastes like...

the end.
